Why Laparoscopy Is Done

Laparoscopy gives your doctor a direct view of the reproductive organs. This can help your doctor find out what's causing problems such as pain, bleeding, or difficulty getting pregnant. Laparoscopy is sometimes used for certain reproductive organ surgeries. The fallopian tubes can be sealed off (tubal ligation) to prevent pregnancy. Or, in some cases, laparoscopy may be used to help do a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus).
