Infertility Treatments

Infertility Treatments

Infertility treatment depends on the cause of infertility, length of infertility, your age and your partner’s age and your personal preferences. Though some causes of infertility cannot be corrected, you can still get pregnant using assisted reproductive technology (ART). You should know that fertility treatment involves significant physical, psychological, financial and time commitments.

Although you may need one or two therapies to restore fertility, it’s also possible that several different treatments may be needed before you conceive. Some of these treatments include:

Fertility Drugs to Stimulate Ovulation – Fertility drugs are the main treatment for women who have ovulation disorders. Ask Dr. Miller about fertility drug options. She can tell you about the benefits and risks for each drug.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) – Healthy sperm are collected, concentrated and placed directly in the uterus as the ovary releases one or more eggs to be fertilized.

Surgery to Restore Fertility – Problems such as endometrial polyps, uterine septum or intrauterine scar tissue are treated with hysteroscopy.

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) – ART is any fertility treatment iin which physicians, embryologists, lab technicians, nurses and allied health professionals handle the egg and sperm. This ART health team works together to help couples achieve pregnancy. The most common ART technique is in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF involves retrieving mature eggs from a woman, fertilizing them with male sperm in a lab dish, then implanting them in the uterus within three to five days after fertilization.
